Two small changes and it will also show seconds and the day of the week.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Adding seconds<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>To change the clock display from this\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"452\" height=\"50\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.glasswire.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/image.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-817\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>to this\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"452\" height=\"49\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.glasswire.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/image-1.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-818\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>requires a change to the registry. As of the writing of this article, this does not work in Windows 11.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><em>Caution:<\/em><\/strong> while it is fairly straightforward to edit the Windows registry, don\u2019t make random changes. There is no <em>Undo<\/em> and changes take effect with no <em>Save<\/em> command. Having a good image backup of your computer is\u2014as always\u2014advised.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you are uncomfortable with using the Registry Editor, you can download <a href=\"https:\/\/opcug.ca\/downloads\/TaskbarClockSeconds.zip\"><strong><em>https:\/\/opcug.ca\/downloads\/TaskbarClockSeconds.zip<\/em><\/strong><\/a>. See the ReadMe.txt file in the zip file for instructions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Open the <strong><em>Registry Editor<\/em><\/strong> (<strong><em>Start<\/em><\/strong>|<strong><em>Windows Administrative Tools<\/em><\/strong>). In the left pane drill down to:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>HKEY_CURRENT_USER\\Software\\Microsoft\\Windows\\CurrentVersion\\Explorer\\Advanced<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Right-click on <strong><em>Advanced<\/em><\/strong> and choose <strong><em>New<\/em><\/strong> | <strong><em>DWORD (32-bit) value<\/em><\/strong> from the context menu.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full is-resized\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.glasswire.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/image-2.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-819\" width=\"631\" height=\"308\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>In the open dialogue box, overwrite the default <strong><em>New Value #1<\/em><\/strong> and name the value <strong><em>ShowSecondsInSystemClock<\/em><\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full is-resized\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.glasswire.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/image-3.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-820\" width=\"487\" height=\"242\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>If you accidentally click off <strong><em>New Value #1<\/em><\/strong>, right-click it, and choose <strong><em>Rename<\/em><\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Double-click the <strong><em>ShowSecondsInSystemClock<\/em><\/strong> value in the right pane, set the <strong><em>Value data<\/em><\/strong> to <strong><em>1<\/em><\/strong>, and click OK.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full is-resized\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.glasswire.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/image-4.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-821\" width=\"318\" height=\"195\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Close the Registry Editor, sign out of Windows and sign back in. Your clock will now display seconds.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you want to change the clock back to not show seconds, edit the <strong><em>ShowSecondsInSystemClock<\/em><\/strong> value and change the <strong><em>Value data<\/em><\/strong> to <strong><em>0<\/em><\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Adding the day of the week<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Run Control Panel (click <strong><em>Start<\/em><\/strong>, start typing <strong><em>control panel<\/em><\/strong> and when it appears in the results, click it).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Select <strong><em>Region<\/em><\/strong> (<strong><em>Clock and Region<\/em><\/strong> if you are in Category view). On the <strong><em>Formats<\/em><\/strong> tab, click the <strong><em>Additional settings\u2026<\/em><\/strong> button. On the <strong><em>Date<\/em><\/strong> tab, in the <strong><em>Date formats<\/em><\/strong> section, click the start of the field for <strong><em>Short date:<\/em><\/strong> and <strong><em>ddd<\/em><\/strong> and a space (mine was <strong><em>yyyy-MM-dd<\/em><\/strong>, so the result was <strong><em>ddd yyyy-MM-dd<\/em><\/strong>).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"434\" height=\"397\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.glasswire.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/image-5.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-822\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Click the <strong><em>Apply<\/em><\/strong> button, check the clock on the Taskbar, and decide if you like it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I tried changing the format to have a comma after the day of the week by using <strong><em>ddd, yyyy-MM-dd<\/em><\/strong> and it looked fine on the Taskbar as <strong><em>Thu, 2022-02-24<\/em><\/strong>, but dates in Excel were then formatted oddly: what used to display as <strong><em>2022-02-24<\/em><\/strong> was displaying as <strong><em>2022,02,24<\/em><\/strong>. If I removed the comma after <strong><em>ddd<\/em><\/strong> Excel displayed dates as before.
